Aliens Redesigned - New Sprites and Acid Spitting

 Here is another update. It revolves around aliens showing their new acid spitting GFX and the new sprites for their dead bodies.

Usually, I use existing elements to create new sounds, but for this acid spitting, I had to create it from scratch. I vocalized the spit itself and used a diet coke for the acid sizzling. I'm quite pleased with the results!

Female Gargantule Aliens Redesigned

For some reason, when I got back the Gargantule aliens, all the females looked weird to me. So, I changed the way they look by taking some inspiration from the queen from the Aliens movie.


I also added the Abnormal Gargantule. The Abnormal is a particular Gargantule variation that combines the qualities of males and females, making it an extremely dangerous opponent.

The Missile Launcher Is In The House!

At one point, I ditched the idea of having a missile launcher due to some technical issues and also for thinking the weapon would be too powerful. But considering all mechanics present in Archrebel and additional thought, I included it back in.
 

While the missile launcher is considered an on-shot-kill weapon, it does come with some restrictions. First of all, the weapon has a considerable minimum range to be used, in other words, targets must be far away from the unit firing the missile. And then, due to the missiles' weight, units will hardly carry more than 1 missile. And on top of all this, it takes a full turn to shoot and reload the missile launcher.

The Level-up System Is Finally Completed!

What I initially thought to be a 2 weeks task, came out as one month and a half of work, instead. I'm just glad this whole UI for the level-up system is now in place.


While I still have to refect the player's choices from the level-up system into the units themselves, this is something that is faster and easier to handle. I've made some critical changes throughout this development and this is also part of the reason why it took longer to complete.
